About Keel: Lorenz keel really doesn't need very much explanation. He is the chairman of the Selee organization. We don't know very much outside of that other than the fact that he appears to have a number of mechanical implants in his body. In the series we merely see the visor that he wears. However in The End of Evangelion, his remains after complementation are a number of mechanical devices. The function of these devices is never discussed or touched upon, however it is possible that they are what is sustaining him, presumably so that he can be present for the ceremony of Third Impact.

There are a number of rumors surrounding Keel that suggest what he might be representative of.  Some believe he is the wandering jew, who spat on Jesus on the day of his crucifixtion, and was consequently damned to walk the Earth till the day of judgement.   Some suggest he is Cain, who is also said to be doomed to eternal life on Earth.   Both these two characters would both logically be bent upon bringing about the day of judgement and/or finding a sort of rest.  However these rumors have very little basis, and would to an extent be dissproven for by the fact that Keel is largely mechanical.  Also of note is that Keel appears to be younger in the flashback.   These two facts go against the belief the Keel is something other than an ordinary man at the head of a mysterious organization.  A man doomed to immortality would neither age, nor need to be sustained by artificial means.

His position and mechanical dependancy are really all we know of him, he is a rather unimportant character who simply fullfills a role, recieves no characterization, and is rarely ever seen. In fact, he recieves even less characterization then Pen Pen, who is an animal, and has no lines. That goes to show how thouroughly unimportant he really is.  If he is representative of anything, we may never know. Theorize as you may, but he will remain shrouded in mystery like so many other aspects of this show.
