Eva Monkey FAQ
Will there ever be a sequel to Eva?
Surprisingly enough, the possiblity does exist. I questioned Takeshi Honda at Katsucon 2004 if there is a possibility of seeing a second Evangelion series. Apparently Hideaki Anno has been tinkering with the idea for some time. Honda stated that the one deterrent would be Anno's current interest in Live Action film. He would have to become bored enough with Live Action to return to animation in order for the aspiration to surface.
While this can be seen as very unlikely, it is my personal opinion that there are two other factors to consider. First and foremost is coming up with a good solid concept for a sequel series. The other and more important thing to consider is that Anno would have to prepare himself for further backlash from the fans. Aside from that I can see it happening at some point in the future, especially as Evangelion has been Gainax's cash cow for the better part of a decade. New animation means new products, and Gainax loves to merchandise, as we all know.
Is there an Eva Hentai?
Yes. Unfortunately. It wasn't approved or made by Gainax. I'm not into hentai, so I can't speak for hentai as a whole from what little I have seen from time to time. But, it was of rather poor quality, and I would advise you to avoid this at all costs. You have been warned.
Is Lorenz Keel a cyborg?
To an extent. He does appear to have a number of mechanical implants in his body. In the series we merely see the visor that he wears. However in The End of Evangelion, his remains after complementation are a number of mechanical devices. The function of these devices is never discussed or touched upon, however it is possible that they are keeping him alive, presumably so that he can be present for the ceremony of Third Impact.
If these impants are keeping Keel alive, this would disprove the theory of Kain being Cain or the Wandering Jew, and neither of which age or would need such devices.
What did Kaworu mean when he told Rei that they were the same?
Rei is a clone of Yui Ikari and a vessal for the soul of Lilith. She (the Rei series) was presumably intended to be used to pilot the mass produced Eva series. Kaworu contains the soul of Adam (this is stated by Selee in the Director's Cut), the other (human) component is questionable (I've heard rumors that he's a clone of Ritsuko or Kaji, that however is completely speculative). Selee produced the Kaworu series secretly. If you look at the entry plugs for the eva series in the movie, there are about 2-3 frames of animation where "Kwaoru" is printed on the side. In short, both Rei and Kaworu are vessels with the source of life of Angels. They were each created with the intention of being vessels to detain the souls of Adam and Lilith, and also to be test data for the Eva Series.
What do the words "Strangeness (dss)" written on Rei's wall in Terminal Dogma mean?
Nerv HQ is a pyramid, just like a quark model, and it is safe to assume that dss refers to the its location within the facility, just like dss is a point within the quark model. Strangeness (dss) has to do with particulate theories, and it is plausible that this also may have something to do with the constitution of souls in Evangelion. This is to a degree speculative, however it is an educated hypothesis.
Is the red "core" of the angels their S2 engine? What's the difference between them?
Generally the Angels have two things in common, a red globe refered to as a core, and a white face with 2 or more holes in it. The red core is not the S2, because the Evangelions posess cores, but not S2, (corollary: Eva 01 after episode 19, and the mass produced Evas have S2). It is generally accepted that all the evas and angels posses cores, and it is there that the soul resides. I believe that the white "face" is the S2, because when Eva 01 eats Zereul, it is only really shown eating the face. However, the S2 is never really identified at any point in the series, but it can be presumed that the face like feature on some of the angels (Sachiel, Zereul, Gaghiel, Israfel) is in fact the S2 organ, or at least, is what protects it, so that it can be used to fire energy blasts (Sachiel, Zereul, Israfel).
