First 10 minutes of Evangelion 3.0+1.0 to screen July 6th.

It was announced yesterday that the first 10 minutes and 40 seconds of Evangelion 3.0+1.0 will screen July 6th in Paris, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and several places in Japan.

The main event, “Yoko Takahashi x Evangelion Stage” will feature the first 10 minutes and 40 seconds of Evangelion 3.0+1.0, which is the opening up to the movie’s title card. Yoko Takahashi, who you may know as the vocalist for Neon Genesis Evangelion’s theme song, “Cruel Angel’s Thesis”, will be appearing as a guest only at the Paris, France event.

The screenings are part of the “Operation 0706” promotional campaign to promote the 2020 release of Evangelion 3.0+1.0. Additionally, there will be an “EVA-EXTRA” smartphone app for iOS and Android that will release additional content to support the campaign. The app will be available for free on July 1st.

Development on Evangelion 3.0+1.0 began during post-production of Shin Godzilla in 2016, and khara began hiring production staff in April 2017. Since then, they’ve trickled out small morsels to remind us that they were still working on the film, until July 2018, when they released a brief teaser announcing that the film would release in 2020.

You may recall that to promote Evangelion 3.0, Nippon Television Network screened Evangelion 1.0, 2.0, and the first 6 minutes and 38 seconds of Evangelion 3.0 on November 16th, 2012, just one day prior to its November 17th release.

I should hope that given that they’ve actually been working on it for two full years, and given that dialogue recording began in March of this year, and given that they’ll be showing us 10 minutes and 40 seconds of Evangelion 3.0+1.0, that they should hopefully be releasing the film in early 2020, rather than late 2020.

I, for one, look forward to seeing this chapter in Anno’s life finally come to a conclusion.
