Something really bizarre happened to the forum configuration file. So the forums are back, and you may post to your heart's delight.

phpBB : Critical Error
Could not query config information
DEBUG MODE
SQL Error : 1226 User 'evamonke_p_bb2' has exceeded the 'max_questions' resource (current value: 50000)
SELECT * FROM phpbb_config

File : common.php
The forums have had this problem before. What it means is that the forum has exceeded the amount of processes it can perform in a given time, thus making the forum die. But never fear, it will be back soon. It just takes some time to cycle/reset/whatever. When the forum comes back, I'll see what I can do to prevent this from happening, but until it comes back, there's little I can do.

The
Eva Monkey Forums have been down since February 21, for a total of 129 days. I wish it weren't that long, but that's just kind of how life went for me and this site. But the forums are back, and I invite you all back to the board. Get posting!

I wanted to take some time to make an update on the forum transfer. I've received thirteen donations for a total of about $60 after processing deductions. This has me well on my way to bringing the forums back on a new host. Thanks go out to Jeff B, Michael H, Benton H, Garrat C, Joshua L, Dustin L, Maria D, Haw L, Paul H, SE P, Jeff H, Ronaldo J, and Justin B. I'll be hooking you all up with a donation gift of some sort in the near future. It may not be that spectacularly awesome, but it will be
something. That should be along in time. And I'll be sure to give you guys some perks on the forums when they come back.

Seeing as how I'm asked about the forums on a nearly daily basis, a status update is probably in order. The forums are back, but are not fully functional. In order to get the forums fixed, I would need to shell out $50 to my host to get them to do something I should be able to do myself. Until now, I've not had qualms with my host, but it's been suggested to me that it's time I found a new host. My hosting agreement pays in advance all the way up untill next January, so I'll have to shell out some extra money on web hosting to get the forums running again. Once I have another account with a better host, I can relocate the forums, and eventually transfer there in full. Or I could transfer the forums and .com domain and use the current server as auxiliary space.
So here's what I'm thinking. I'm not exactly broke, but I am strapped for cash. Slapping down about $100 for a new webhost isn't something I can do right now. Eva Monkey receives over 11,000 unique visits each month, and we need to forums back, it is an integral part of this site, and I would argue is an important part of the English speaking Evangelion fan circle as well. So here's what I'm requesting of you loyal and supportive forum members. If you want to see the forums back as soon as possible, please donate $5. For five dollars, you can sponsor this site and community. Divided up amongst a bunch of people, its quite easy.
I can't offer much in return. I can load up the server with a bunch of Eva junk and let you go wild. I can migrate the entire site to a new account and donators have access to the old server to us for image hosting until the service expires next january. Hell, I could even put some super secret stuff up for download just for donators. You never know. So please, help a Monkey out and give to the fix the forum fund?

Well, after about three weeks, I finally got the forums restored. Only there's a problem with the database, and no one is able to log in, not even me. And to make matters worse, the database is hidden away from phpmyadmin, so I can't fix it manually through that. I swear, I will have the forum back, without starting from scratch.

It took some effort, but the forums will DEFINITELY be back within the next 24-48 hours. You do not need to re-register, the forums will be back in more or less their former state. You might need to re-upload your avatar, and the forum skin might not look the same, but all the posts and forum information will be identical to the way it was prior to the crash. Check back in a day or two, and we'll have a good laugh about it.
In the meantime, I suggest you go over to fanfiction.net, and report PhilipCult for ripping off the
Eva Talent Show thread.

In the past, there was a problem with a limit on SQL queries which killed the board periodically. There was also some problems with certain controls that are only related to administrative control. I had been planning a fresh install of the newest version of phpbb in hopes of alleviating or phasing out these issues entirely. So when tinkering with Wordpress on my server, I was reviewing database control, and I noticed a diagnostic and repair feature. I ran a diagnostic on the forums to find quite a few problems with certain tables of the forum database. So I decided to give the automated repair function a try. Just before I did, it occured to me that I should probably do a full backup before hand. So I did, and then did some repairing. All looked good, the diagnostic showed green across the board (HA! PUNS!) and I took a look over at the board, and I think I even posted once or twice before wandering away from my computer. I returned to find an IM from DatDude informing me that the board had turned inside out. I went back in to run a diagnostic to find that somehow the table of the database containing all the sessions information was gone. Basically, the forum was dead, near as I could figure. And I was sure that wasn't the only table missing. So I've got another fresh install of phpbb running in another directory, and I'm currently trying to restore the backup to the new install. The problem is that the forum backup is 130 megs. That's pretty big. Pretty tedious to edit, and pretty tedious to restore. So I in short, the forum will be back as soon as I can get the database restored properly.

I don't like to ban people from the forums. I generally let people do what they want within reason. I don't make people use kindergarten acceptable language, and I generally let people be themselves. It has worked fairly well so far, aside from a few isolated instances which have been dealt with It is not very often that we get someone who is quite literally "fucking nuts".
That being said, the user "PhilipCult" has been banned. Most of his posts have been deleted, and many of the posts which acknowledged his existance have been deleted as well, leaving the forum relatively devoid of proof of his existance. However, if you have a bottle of aspirin, and care to see what sort of behavior will get you banned from a forum, you can read either
this, or
this.
From here on out, I expect all current and future forum members to use proper english, grammar, punctuation, and to not be completely "fucking nuts". I don't care to go through and read this sort of nonsense. And I'm sorry to anybody who was bothered or offended by PhilipCult. Thank you to Titus, Defectron, and SEELE 08 for bringing this to my attention.
