Precognition

In the past, there was a problem with a limit on SQL queries which killed the board periodically. There was also some problems with certain controls that are only related to administrative control. I had been planning a fresh install of the newest version of phpbb in hopes of alleviating or phasing out these issues entirely. So when tinkering with WordPress on my server, I was reviewing database control, and I noticed a diagnostic and repair feature. I ran a diagnostic on the forums to find quite a few problems with certain tables of the forum database. So I decided to give the automated repair function a try. Just before I did, it occured to me that I should probably do a full backup before hand. So I did, and then did some repairing. All looked good, the diagnostic showed green across the board (HA! PUNS!) and I took a look over at the board, and I think I even posted once or twice before wandering away from my computer. I returned to find an IM from DatDude informing me that the board had turned inside out. I went back in to run a diagnostic to find that somehow the table of the database containing all the sessions information was gone. Basically, the forum was dead, near as I could figure. And I was sure that wasn’t the only table missing. So I’ve got another fresh install of phpbb running in another directory, and I’m currently trying to restore the backup to the new install. The problem is that the forum backup is 130 megs. That’s pretty big. Pretty tedious to edit, and pretty tedious to restore. So I in short, the forum will be back as soon as I can get the database restored properly.
