Question:

Do you think Gainax will make a sequel to Evangelion?

Answer:

This question tends to come up quite often.

While Evangelion is still immensely popular in America, and poised to make a dramatic leap back to the forefront of fan awareness in America with the impending American release of the Evangelion movies, the series is well past its prime in Japan and is now the realm of die-hard, fanatic otaku. Since the release of End of Evangelion back in 1997, Gaianx has produced the FLCL OAV series, and the Kareshi Kanojo no Jijoo, Anime Ai no Awa Awa Hour, Automatic Maiden Mahoromatic, Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai anime TV series, the live action movies Love & Pop and Shikijitsu, and is currently producing the Mahoromatic OAV series and Puchipuri Yushi TV series with plans for Top O Narae! Gunbuster 2 and Blue Uru to follow. With all of this animation either already produced or in the wings, it seems clear that the animators of Gainax have clearly said their last word on Evangelion and have no plans to revive the series.

There have been countless rumors of new Evangelion animation, including animation footage from the Sega Saturn Evangelion video games mistaken as new footage, and a convincing fan art poster titled "Reprise of Evangelion" (viewable through Evaotaku's Neon Genesis Evangelion Frequently Asked Questions Page), but based on all convincing evidence and logical extrapolation, the End of Evangelion movie really was the end of Evangelion.
