Platinum Edition Booklets

By The Eva Monkey on Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

I’ve felt compelled recently to do a little site work, so I put together a page for the Platinum Edition Booklets that the forums members assisted me in transcripting some months back. They have a lot of interesting information in them, so if you didn’t purchase the separate Platinum DVDs or simply don’t feel like bothering with the DVD cases, you can now read them online. But by all means, please do read these, they’re good stuff. Thanks again to all the forum members that took the time to help me with the work.

What’s up buddy?

By The Eva Monkey on Thursday, November 17th, 2005

It’s been over a month since my last news post. On one hand, it hasn’t been eventful in terms of Evangelion stuff in the last month. Eva has been airing on Cartoon Network, but there’s nothing worth talking about. The Platinum Thinpak is coming soon, and I should be getting it for review, so if anyone is curious, I should be able to tell you exactly what it entails.

But, aside from uneventfulness, I’ve been noticibly absent from the site and forums. Before you freak out and think that Eva Monkey is going down, or that I’m giving up, don’t worry, its all good. With the end of this semester, I’m looking to spend some time during the winter working on Eva Monkey. I have a sleek sexy new design to commemorate the site’s third anniversary. I’ll be trying a few new things, and hopefully people will enjoy renewed interest in Evangelion.

That’s the short of it. If anyone’s interested in what I’ve been doing in the meantime, feel free to read on.

College has been tough, busy, hectic, stressful, but mostly enjoyable. I’m currently working as a Input/Output/Lab monitor in the Visual Art department. I’m also working as a staff writer for the Art & Entertainment section of the school newspaper “The Retriever”. I’ve been writing about Anime, Games, Websites, and Movies. I’ve generally been regarded as a fine new addition to what is considered the paper’s strongest and most successful section.

My anime club on the other hand has been extremely stressful, which is a damn shame. I’m currently struggling with the position of Vice President. And as anyone knows, the VP position of any organization is more or less the “bitch” of the club. The one that does the most work, the greatest diversity of tasks, and receives the least amount of credit. It sucks, and this is the first semester where it has sucked beyond all relative standards.

I’m enjoying my arts education, and looking forward to a smooth conclusion to the semester. I haven’t had a break in a while, my only real break was the summer of 2004, due to semesters between regular semesters. I took 12 credits over the summer, which many people consider “nuts”. I thought it was easy. Winter vacation will be a time for me to kick back, play some video games, watch some anime, do some web design, and be an Eva geek again.

See you all then.

Have I gone crazy?

By The Eva Monkey on Saturday, September 24th, 2005

There are times when I’m not quite sure, but I think I may have lost my sanity. And if I knew better, I would pick up the phone, place a call to the crazy house, and ask them to please lock me up. But, I digress. For some strange reason, I’ve become addicted to You The Man Now Dog. I can’t really figure it out, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that deep down I like to torture myself.

Some YTMNDs that I found interesting:

Adding a Third Dimension

By The Eva Monkey on Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

I know there are some people out there that are interested in the design of the Evangelions, especially when the Evangelions are presented in three dimensions, whether we’re talking about physical models and toys, or virtual 3D models. For those that have taken the route of actually recreating an Evangelion in 3-Dimensional space, you know how difficult it can be. Even those that sculpted the early molds for toys and models had a difficult time giving dimension to Yamashita’s design. For those looking to playing with the Evangelion world in something like Lightwave, you might be interested to track down something like these 3D Workshop packages. I don’t know if these things are still still available, or if they’re available to international customers, but if you play with Lightwave, it might be worth looking into. For everyone else, there’s some interesting imagery and several commercials you may want to download for kicks.

Gainax, don’t ever change.

By The Eva Monkey on Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

Well, it looks like those Eva edition iPods were such a hit that Gainax has licensed another such device. That’s right, you can be the proud owner of a Kenwood Digital Audio Player in Rei White, or Asuka red! Looks to go on sale December 24th, for the low low price of 59,640 yen ($536) and whatever dignity you might still have. And if these sell well, perhaps we might see Evangelion Edition PS3s, Evangelion Edition DVD players, or Evangelion Edition flame throwers. The imagination is the limit!

According to this article in English, the unit comes pre-loaded with Evangelion OSTs 1-3, and the OSTs for Death and The End of Evangelion, so the thing comes with 5 cds worth of music. A nice touch, but it still doesn’t change the fact that this device is extremely extravagent.

Eva Comics Updates

By The Eva Monkey on Sunday, August 28th, 2005

Eva Comics is back, with two new strips for your consumption. And for those new to the comic interested in learning a little bit more about it, there is this recently published article as well as this interview I conducted a while ago. Eva Comics is a bit more light hearted fare than what you see in Evangelion, which is good in my opinion, and I love to see American fan comics like this, so be sure to give it a read, and support the comic.

Eva Monkey at Otakon 2005

By The Eva Monkey on Thursday, August 11th, 2005

To reiterate, I will be hosting a Tenth Anniversary of Evangelion panel at Otakon 2005. Joining me this year are Reichu of the Eva Commentary Project, and Otaprince of Gainax Pages. We’ll be sure to put on a good program for those in attendance, so if you’re making it out to Baltimore this year, we’ll be in Panel 1 on Saturday from 5:30 to 6:30. We’re sure to be around just prior and for some time after the panel if anyone wants to hang out and chat, whether about Eva, anime, Gainax, or anything in between.

Also, a meeting has been discussed prior to the panel, so if you would like to meet up and hang out, and possibly get lunch, check this thread over at Anime Nation.

I hope to see some of you there.

Bruce Timm Fan Art

By The Eva Monkey on Monday, August 1st, 2005

When boredom strikes, I post random stuff on Eva Monkey. I came across these illustrations by Bruce Timm, who you may know from his work on such shows as Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and more. He also does quite a bit of fan art, so I present to you his Eva illustrations. You can find a rather substantial fan maintained gallery on Buzzscope, which includes artwork, biography, and interviews. Check it out, it’s good stuff.

Chugworth Academy

By The Eva Monkey on Sunday, July 31st, 2005

Don’t ask, I only find this stuff. I’m amused that the book in first two panels is for Otakon 2005 where I’ll be hosting my next Evangelion panel. It’s good to see that I’m not the one getting excited and geared up for the convention this year. If you happen to live a stone’s throw from Baltimore, and having nothing better to do this time next month, check it out. It’s a good time, and everyone’s invited.
